gotta love this t-shirt. i wanted to know what i would find if i googled ‘hapa and tshirt’. i was thoroughly amused by the picture of the twinkie (yellow on the outside, white on the inside) as a representation of what a halfer might be like but really it’s so off. i’m sure there are those who feel white on the outside and yellow on the inside…does a picture of an egg come up? maybe being known as an egg isn’t as appealing for tshirts! lol!
i’ve always liked examining the conversation that’s happening out there with respects to being hapa because there are so many opinions, ideas, and judgements on the subject. some are comfortable with their multiracial heritage, some lean to one side more than the other, some deny it. for me, i’m a blend…not necessarily an equal blend of the cultures that make me up but more so a hybrid of sorts. an american born, half japanese, half white guy who grew up for the most part in canada. it’s been interesting to say the least and i know it’s different for halfers nowadays because it seems more then norm than the exception.
well, i figure i’ll have more to write about this later. right now i’m gonna go grab some dinner. tonight, steak and rice :)
