gotta love this t-shirt. i wanted to know what i would find if i googled ‘hapa and tshirt’. i was thoroughly amused by the picture of the twinkie (yellow on the outside, white on the inside) as a representation of what a halfer might be like but really it’s so off. i’m sure there are those who feel white on the outside and yellow on the inside…does a picture of an egg come up? maybe being known as an egg isn’t as appealing for tshirts! lol!
i’ve always liked examining the conversation that’s happening out there with respects to being hapa because there are so many opinions, ideas, and judgements on the subject. some are comfortable with their multiracial heritage, some lean to one side more than the other, some deny it. for me, i’m a blend…not necessarily an equal blend of the cultures that make me up but more so a hybrid of sorts. an american born, half japanese, half white guy who grew up for the most part in canada. it’s been interesting to say the least and i know it’s different for halfers nowadays because it seems more then norm than the exception.
well, i figure i’ll have more to write about this later. right now i’m gonna go grab some dinner. tonight, steak and rice :)
she thinks she is so funny! :p i concede that my iPad looks similar to my iPhone…but still! lol!
the way i look at it i haven’t got an unlimited number of years left to do something…to make a name for myself…to contribute to the world dialogue…to make a difference. this is undeniable. but i still don’t know how that is going to happen.
i think what bugs me the most is easily being able to look into the past and see all the choices i’ve made and instantly determine whether they helped or hindered me…if it was a well thought out action or acute blunder. unfortunately i can’t seem to do this with my future actions with as much accuracy. i’m supposed to be getting wiser as i get older but i still seem to be making errors in judgement or not looking at all my choices before jumping into something. even as i write this i know what i have to do: step back and pause. think. then decide. so simple but falling into old patterns is so simple too.
ok. here’s the new plan. first decide what i want an outcome to be before making any huge decision (i’m not talking about easy ones like where to eat, or white runners or hightops. once i decide what i want the outcome to look like i can look at the ways to get to the desired outcome and map out a plan. it’s kind of like knowing the end result of a video game and you just keep trying different tactics until you achieve your goal. except all this happens in the mind. then make a decision on action. make a wiser choice? hopefully.
tuna tartar at koto izakaya in richmond. first time trying out this place and it actually was pretty decent considering there were like only 6 other patrons. what was cool though was the waitress took the order off a wireless device that sent the order to the kitchen and to their computer. it kept track of the order and printed off a receipt. the when we paid by credit card she of course came by with a wireless terminal and completed the transaction right at our table! I love technology :) and the food was good too!
this pic was taken using the IncrediBooth app on my buddy’s iphone 4. i love the nostalgic nature of this app even if i can’t use it on my 3gs…so sad :( but i wanted to post this to document one part of the day where i was a groomsman for my good friend dustin. he got married to karen last saturday in a beautiful ceremony done at the rose gardens here in new westminster’s queens park.
i felt priveledged to be part of his day :)
